The Rutherford Cancer Centres are at the forefront of innovative cancer care. Providing ready access to state-of-the-art cancer treatments delivered by experienced consultants, specialists and staff, in exceptional care settings.

With a commitment to excellence throughout all we do, the network of centres provide an all-encompassing cancer service, delivering the highest quality imaging, diagnostics, planning, and treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy and proton beam therapy.

Each of the Rutherford Cancer Centres has been carefully designed to meet the needs of our patients, and we pride ourselves on the standard of service and care we provide to everyone who enters one of the centres.

Each and every patient has a personalised care pathway, and our team of highly skilled staff provide support throughout treatment and offer easy access to a range of supportive care services, as required.

We work in collaboration with a range of partners, including insurers, technology companies, and health organisations, to provide patients with the best life outcomes possible coupled with personalised care and support. 

The Rutherford Cancer Centres were the first in the UK to treat a patient with high-energy proton beam therapy, and the Rutherford Cancer Centre South Wales has been approved by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC) to provide high energy proton beam therapy to adult patients referred from the NHS in Wales.

Rutherford Cancer Centre South Wales

Offering state-of-the-art radiotherapy, imaging and chemotherapy, the Rutherford Cancer Centre South Wales was the first Rutherford centre to open. The centre uses the latest equipment to plan and deliver the best treatments for our patients. The Rutherford Cancer Centre South Wales was also the first centre to offer proton beam therapy and the first to treat a patient in the UK.

Rutherford Cancer Centre North East

The Rutherford Cancer Centre North East opened in 2018 to treat patients. Located in the beautiful Northumberland countryside and custom-built to suit the needs of our patients, the centre provides radiotherapy, imaging, chemotherapy, wellbeing services and, from spring 2019, proton beam therapy.

Rutherford Cancer Centre Thames Valley

Located in Reading, the Rutherford Cancer Centre Thames Valley opened in 2018. The centre is located at the Thames Valley Science Park, which provides highly specialist facilities and brings together some of Europe’s leading health and sciences projects. The centre offers patients radiotherapy, imaging, chemotherapy, wellbeing services and, from autumn 2019, proton beam therapy.

Rutherford Cancer Centre North West

Overlooking the city of Liverpool, the Rutherford Cancer Centre North West is being constructed as part of the city's exciting Knowledge Quarter development, situated close to both the university and hospital. The centre will provide specialist treatment and imaging facilities, offering patients radiotherapy, chemotherapy, supportive care services and proton beam therapy.

International Centres

The Gulf International Cancer Centre, Abu Dhabi

Proton Partners International will be building a proton beam therapy centre as part of the Gulf International Cancer Center (GICC), a large existing cancer centre in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The centre will be the first high energy proton beam therapy centre in the Middle East, offering treatment from 2019.

The centre is currently operational, offering the following conventional treatments:

  • Radiation therapy with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
  • Radiation therapy with high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy implants
  • Chemotherapy and hormonal treatment
  • Cancer diagnosis and staging utilising positron emission tomography–computed tomography (PET-CT) with supportive cyclotron
  • Counselling for cancer education and prevention
